Campfire Songs

Posted by Bangbang on Sunday, September 14

In my previous post on my staff retreat, I recalled how I used to have campfires during my camps in NPCC and OBS too. So I was randomly doing a search online and found some good old songs that we used to sing all the time. I wonder how many of you would be able to associate with them.

Here's a top 3 pick from my list of songs that I am most familiar and often sing:

(1) IN THE MORNING
In the morning, in the morning
In the morning, 5BX
Run like donkey
Jump like monkey
In the morning, 5BX
In the afternoon, in the afternoon
In the afternoon, after lunch
Mess tin oily
Rifle rusty
Corporal scold me upside down
In the evening, in the evening
In the evening, extra drill
Kiri pu-sing, kanan pu-sing
Belakang pu-sing, SEMULA
In the night time, in the night time
In the night time, cooling time
Think of mother, think of father
Think of girlfriend/boyfriend
Buay ta han

(2) FIVE HUNDRED MILES
If you miss the train I’m on
You will know that I am gone
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles,
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
Lord I’m one, Lord I’m two
Lord I’m three, Lord I’m four
Lord I’m five hundred miles away from home
Away from home (4X)
Lord I’m five hundred miles away from home
Not a shirt on my back
Not a penny to my name
Lord I can’t go back home this-a-way
This-a-way (4X)
Lord I can’t go back home this-a-way

(3) PASS IT ON
It only takes a spark to get a fire going
And soon all those around can warm up in its glowing
That’s how it is with God’s love
Once you’ve experience it
You’ll spread round to everyone
You’ll want to pass it on
What a wonderful time is spring
When all the trees are building
The birds begin to sing
The flowers start their blooming
That’s how it is with God's love
Once you’ve experience it
You’ll spread it round to everyone
You’ll want to pass it on

As I was singing it along just now, I was reminded of how some of my cell members are now going into army and some of these songs might be sung. Though they might not be able to read this post because they've already enlisted, I wanna dedicated this post to Melvin, Keith, Ben and Ivan, that even when they are in the army, they will be able to have a steadfast mind and withstand all the tough training.
